About

Amogerone Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Inc. was founded in 1876.

It is the oldest volunteer fire company in the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut.

Greenwich Fire Department responds to well over 4,200 calls every year.  GFD is presently staffed by 100 career firefighters and 100 volunteer firefighters.  While the majority of the calls are handled with great expertise by our career firefighters, the response to some emergencies, including structure fires and extreme weather, requires more manpower, and that means volunteers.

Amogerone is a who, not a what...

On July 18, 1640, Amogerone, the Achem of the Asamuck tribe, sold the land area now known as Greenwich, Connecticut to representatives of the New Haven Colony in return for 25 coats.

The name of the company memorializes Chief Amogerone’s independent spirit, if not his business acumen.
