Amogerone is a who, not a what. On July 18, 1640, Amogerone, the Achem of the Asamuck tribe, sold the land area now known as Greenwich, Connecticut to representatives of the New Haven Colony in return for 25 coats. The name of the company memorializes Chief Amogerone’s independent spirit, if not his business acumen. |
