"Rosie"
Our apparatus is an invaluable component of the Greenwich Fire Dept.

Why is AVFC so essential to the Town of Greenwich?
In a fire, smoke and noxious gases are the biggest threats. Asphyxiation by poisonous fumes in the air outweighs burning as cause of death by a 3:1 ratio. Fumes accumulate quickly and spread rapidly, often beyond the range of the fire itself. Firefighters carry Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. SCBA is an open-circuit positive pressure compressed air system which protects firefighters from smoke inhalation. Synthetic materials which are commonplace in today’s homes produce especially dangerous substances.
In addition to structure fires, firefighters respond to Hazmat spills and all kinds of calls where they are required to work in “IDLH” or Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health environments. Rosie is the only portable source of clean air at an emergency scene.
Rosie's Arrival
On March 21, 2012, we took delivery of our new apparatus, “Rosie." Rosie’s Wet Down and blessing was held on April 24, 2012. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of our friends and neighbors who contributed 100% of the $400,000 that made Rosie possible.
